BRITISH COLLEGE OF APPLIED STUDIES (BCAS) was established in 1999 in Kandy primarily to impart Information Technology Education and English to school leavers and people in employment requiring computer skills. In order to give the courses a sound footing and recognition, BCAS collaborated with two British institutions in 2000 to conduct examinations for IT and English separately and award certificates.

The curriculum and the syllabus for both computing and English are entirely theirs (British Institutions). The quality of the courses was well received by the student community, especially school leavers with GCE Ordinary or Advance Level qualification and parents.

Collaboration with Edexcel UK in September 2002, having been satisfied with the infrastructure and resources made available, the Edexcel (UK) approved BCAS to conduct the internationally-recognized BTEC HND courses in Computing, Business Information Technology and Software Engineering.

BCAS happens to be one of the three institutions in Sri Lanka that have been approved by the EDEXCEL, UK to conduct BTEC HND. The departments include Degree and Diploma Levels in Computing and English. While the staff of the Degree Level programmes consist of IT and engineering graduates from Local and overseas universities and graduates with post graduates qualifications from overseas universities, the rest of the departments are handled by well- qualified professionals. There is a separate department that looks after student counselling for both local and overseas education opportunities.

BCAS has already had discussion with Universities in the UK, Canada and Australia to transfer its HND products for perfecting the qualification with BSc (Hons) Degree.
With the Colombo Centre to its full capacity, only recently did we develop our Kandy Centre to cater to advanced courses. We are now seriously contemplating to expand our Colombo Centre as well in view of the ever increasing demand.

BCAS has now launched EDEXCEL UK approved BTEC HND course in QUANTITY SURVEYING. BCAS is the first ever private institution in Sri Lanka to launch this demanding degree programme outside the University of Moratuwa.

BCAS is a registered institution with Ministry of Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, Sri Lanka (No P 01/0208 of 25th February 2003).
