BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering with Structural Design

Civil Engineering incorporates a wide range of planning, designing and construction activities dealing with bridges, highways, transportation, water supply, fluid flow, water reclamation, foundations and geotechnical engineering problems. Main parts of studies are on environmental engineering, urban planning, design of infrastructures and disaster control. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are applied to environmental problems of anticipation and remediation, while numerical simulations and analytical mechanics in addition to physics and mathematics are used to solve problems on design of structures and materials and disaster control. Many information processing techniques and statistical approaches are necessary for urban planning as well as environmental engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering has 4 specific laboratories in the fields of Material Science, Engineering Geology & Soil Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics. The department shares the research and education tasks with National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), Hydraulic Research Laboratory of Irrigation Department (HRL of Irrigation Department), Institute of Surveying and Mapping Diyatalawa (ISMD), Irrigation Training Institute (ITI) Galgamuwa and National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA).

Department of Civil Engineering is organizing a number of training opportunities collaborated with NAITA in local industries. These invaluable opportunities give both HND and Top up students to work along-side professionals on real-world problems. In addition, the department is providing a 10 days rigorous surveying training camp at ITI and ISMD, it provides students the solid knowledge on surveying and handling with latest surveying instruments (Total Station, GPS etc.) including mapping software (GIS).

We are the leading degree awarding institute approved by the University Grand Commission (UGC) under the University Act. For more than 16 years, BCAS has been endowing our students to make a difference in their lives. Uniqueness of our courses have armed our students to engage with the challenging environment and embark on truly rewarding careers. Our students are be ready to face the world through critical thinking and creative problem solving.

Department of Civil Engineering was established in 2012. We opened our doors to students in Dehiwale campus. Currently, we offer both HND and Top up, and accommodate over 300 students in every years, including international students from various regions in the world. We take great pride in producing professionals who make meaningful contributions to their communities and countries. Now, the department has been brought up to Mount Campus with enough facilities, we have developed the laboratory facilities to students enhance their in-depth knowledge in real scenario.

We offer the complete 3 years program of civil engineering with collaboration of University of East London (UEL) and Edexcel in UK.

This University is approved and Accredited by UGC (University Grant Commission)  of Sri Lanka.  Students should follow the modules which have been offered by Edexcel in UK in first two years. Edexcel is one of the three major awarding bodies in UK, it is a vital and innovative force in education and training. Edexcel was formed in 1996 by the merger of two of the leading examination and assessment boards in the UK: the Business and Technology Council (BTEC) which offered widely recognised vocational qualifications and, the University of London Examinations and Assessment Council (ULEAC). Once they complete BTEC HND, the final year students are following two semester which are offered by University of East London (UEL)-UK.
